The MiG-29SD or as it is called in Malaysia MiG-29N is the basic variant of the 9-12 with a few minor modifications. There were 16 aircraft built and delivered to Malaysia. It features an improved flight control system with an aileron limiter. The cockpit layout is in english and the instrumentation is western style (i.e. in feet, nautical miles, western IFF, TACAN)

With the 800 hours overhaul (1997-1999) the jets were equipped with N-019ME Radar and the capability to employ R-77 air-to-air-missiles.Additionally they received a air refuelling system and are now upto MiG-29SE standart except for the jamming system.
